Back to the Drawing Board

Back to the Drawing Board It’s been 8 months since my last blog post and, although I’ve missed blogging terribly, it was a much-needed break. I haven’t been well in rl and in my time away I’ve realised that trying to blog all the things! (and attempting to build) had become somewhat overwhelming. I was so weighed down trying to keep up with events that I lost some of the love I had for in-world photography.

Also, to my shame, I was becoming slap-dash in my creative approach. It didn’t help that there were some really obvious things that I should have learned already but that I’d somehow managed to remain oblivious to.. such as being able to take much better resolution photos. Fortunately, the wonderful Strawberry Singh has some excellent tutorials and, finally, I am paying attention!

So this time around I will be focusing on honing my blogger-craft by spending more time taking better constructed pictures and writing informative posts. I will, of course, try to keep up with current events and promotions (mostly because I’m a shopaholic) but there are blogs already out there that manage this much better than I ever will and I don’t want to burn out again. I’m also hoping to return to building, but that will be a much more gradual process.

Most of all I’m looking forward to learning new skills and sharing my little slice of Second Life with you all again.. and I promise future posts will probably not be quite this wordy – I just had a lot to catch you up on!

And so.. let the blogging (re)commence!

The inspiration for this post came on a random shopping trip which led me to Mad Echo. I’d previously purchased one of their very cute Neko Clutch purses on the Marketplace and I wanted to see what the store was like. My eye was drawn (geddit?) to this Sketchbook Costume as I hadn’t seen anything like it before and I was really impressed with the style. It took a little while to dawn on me that this was how I wanted to return to blogging, but once it did I was so excited to complete the look!

Kitten’s included hair texture is absolutely brilliant and worked so well with most of the modifiable hair I had in my inventory though in the end I settled on the very cute (and currently on promotion) style by A&A as I thought it complimented my sketch-avi’s face the best. I modified my shape a little more than usual to work with this skin, opening up the eyes and tweaking the mouth to really show off its beautiful detail.

My first real challenge was clothing – I really wanted to keep to a paper theme but I couldn’t find anything pre-made that fitted the idea I had in my head – which was the kind of cut-outs you would put on a paper doll.  So, I looked at a few websites and found some lovely designs (free for personal use) at Paper Thin Personas; not wanting anything too detailed, I just took a rough trace of this dress on the bottom right. At first I kept the tabs because I thought they would look cute but they didn’t work well with my pose in the end so I took them out. Finally, I filled the shape with this lovely crumpled paper texture, uploaded it, slapped it on a prim, attached and positioned it. I could have possibly made something more sophisticated but I wanted it to look rough-and-ready and I think it kinda works.

For the shoes I simply found a modifiable pair of ballet pumps I already had in my inventory and added the same texture to them.

Everything else was pretty straight forward and you can find the full credits after the next pic.

I hope you enjoy this post – I’m really excited to be back!
